SEO Updates for 2011 – SEO 3.0

Article by Dejan SEO

Mike Meyer spoke of SEO 3.0 last year, some laughed; some nodded their heads and some acknowledged SEO 3.0 as a step forward in search engine optimization. Basically, what SEO 3.0 is all about is actually keeping updated on SEO happenings and updates like Google instant, Farmer update or even Google +1. In other words, Google has rolled up more updates in the past year than it has in almost a decade before, so if you wish to stay updated and have your work amount to something you need to stay updated with relevant SEO techniques. Doing all stuff may work, but it may prove to be a waste of time.

So what updates are there that directly influenced search engine optimization and things we as SEO’s need to think about? Well, there is Google Instant and Google Preview. What these two do is that they will make your website depend on the phrase, first impression counts. As you know preview will allow anyone to take a peek at your website from the SERP without clicking on your link and visiting your website, so this update actually screams to web owners to make their websites more appealing to the eye.

Most people will click on what they like, but without reading they have only your website layout to go on, and what is the result of this update actually. Well, since Google takes into account the traffic on your website if your traffic falls so will your rankings, so again, make sure that your website looks appealing. Google instant also brought us many new phrases to target, some that we never thought about before, so I actually look upon this update as a bonus to SEO’s, not something we need overcome, but something we can use to our benefit.

What else is there? Well we recently had the Farmer update. This is also a good update for some and bad for others, it requires something Google spoke about all the time, and that is going back to old content and deleting it or making it better and a beat of tweaking to our strategies. If your content is bad than you don’t need it, so either remove it or make it good by rewriting it or adding more usefulness to it.

Also, since most article directories and other so called content farms, e-commerce sites included, took a hit by this update most people started avoiding article marketing. This is wrong, there is nothing wrong with writing useful and quality articles and getting them published on top level directories, as long as you keep to quality you will get both traffic and a quality link from those articles. Don’t submit one article to dozens of directories but go for one quality article per one article directory and you will see the benefit, after all, Google wants to promote quality content with this update, so you should give that quality content and nothing else.

There are other updates, small and large you should note at all times, and not just Google updates. Bing and Yahoo merger made a few spots for SEO’s to sneak in and get some increase in traffic through their search engine. Staying updated with industry news is a must and at the same time common sense. If you wish to provide the best possible service to your clients or wish to optimize your website the right way and build a traffic rich website you will follow the news and you will implement only the latest SEO techniques.
